Volunteering at Competitions
Have you considered volunteering for an event?
Competitions have been a significant part of the Sugarloaf Ski Club and Sugarloaf Mountain since the beginning of both. Volunteering your time supports the Sugarloaf Competition Center as well as the many athletes it serves. Without volunteers, the Sugarloaf Competition Department would not be able to run the many outstanding competition events in the timely, cost-effective and efficient manner it has become known for.
There are inside and outside positions required for us to run events and the average competition utilizes 40 volunteers per day. We run events in several disciplines; most of our events are of the alpine discipline, but we also hold freestyle and border cross events. Don’t worry about lack of experience or knowledge, we provide training for all positions, and you will be welcomed by those who already volunteer.
There are many benefits to helping with events, some tangible and others intangible. The joy of seeing a young athlete go from weekend youth competitions to an international downhill championship is priceless. There is also a tremendous comradery among the volunteers that one has to be there to understand; volunteering is a great way to meet new people and make new friends.
Drop in to the Bill & Joan Alfond Competition Center, come up to the second floor Competition Administrator's Office, and talk to Laurel Lashar about volunteering; or call Laurel at 237-6896 to arrange a visit. She will explain the positions available, how you can help, and anything else that needs explanation.
If you would like to be part of a group that helps to ensure that events at Sugarloaf go off without a hitch - we'd love to have you join us.
